Dr. Amy Allen will listen carefully to any concerns you may have, review previous medical history and check the health of your pet from head to tail. She will review with you her findings and recommendations to keep your pet(s) happy & healthy at home. She has many years experience delivering compassionate care and sound advice, focusing on problem prevention for healthy pets and options to restore health & happiness in sick, injured, and tired aged pets. You will be happy you called the River Valley House Call Vet to come to you.
Any medical history from previous vet visits is very helpful. Doctor's notes include a record of concerns, exam findings, medications, test results and vaccination dates. If you prefer, Dr Allen can make the call to request a copy be faxed over for her review before the House Call. Your pet's records will remain on file with your previous or regular vet, and if you like, Dr Allen can also forward a copy of her records to them, giving you the best of both worlds. When there is no significant medical history, Dr. Allen can still work with whatever information you may have.
Dr Allen answers the phone, checks messages between appointments and personally returns your calls. She may, or may not, be available with an urgent concern but tries to leave some time available each day just for urgent needs. E-mails are checked once daily. She travels to your home in her wagon, with everything needed for the visit. The entire visit is spent with the doctor. No special space is required. A comfortable place works best. Dr Allen usually spends her time on the floor with your pet(s). She is able to meet the needs of most healthy, sick, injured, and very tired older pets. When medications are needed, they are prescribed and available at the time of the visit, sent to a regular pharmacy for you to pick up, or special ordered and later delivered. Regular prescriptions and preventives can be delivered to your door throughout the year, with advanced notice of 1-2 weeks. House Calls can take as little as 20 minutes or as much as 1 hour if need be. Even more time is set aside when multiple pets will be seen. When routine surgery is needed to spay or neuter your pet(s), or if an additional surgical procedure is needed later in life, Dr Allen works closely with many local vet hospitals and tries to find one that best meets your needs and expectations. The fact is, most pets do not require additional surgery in later life stages. In some circumstances, Dr. Allen, as your previous or regular vet, may refer you to a specialist who has advanced expertise in areas such as ophthalmology, internal medicine or surgery. The Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital in South Deerfield is always available 24/7 to address any emergency or after hours concern you may have, at 413-665-4911. They then notify regular vets in our area when their patients have been seen. Dr Allen keeps in close contact with those doctors and her clients when supportive care and advanced procedures are needed.

Dr Allen is absolutely amazing. I contacted her because my elderly cat Clara was very ill, and needed to be put to sleep. My regular veterinarian did not do House Calls and I wanted Clara's passing to be as comfortable as possible- in her own home, on her own bed, surrounded by peace and love. Dr Allen came to my home within three hours of my phone call. She was overwhelmingly kind to both Clara and me. Clara's passing was completely serene, which was exactly what I wanted. I CAN NOT recommend Dr Allen's veterinary services enough. She is simply a WONDERFUL veterinarian, and all pets deserve a doctor like her.
